Relandersgrund, 137 Years Old
A maritime icon since 1888.
Built at the Turku Shipyard (W. Crichton & Co.) 1886–1888
Served as a lighthouse ship on the Finnish coast 1888–1917
Scuttled and sunk in 1918
Operated as a reserve lighthouse in the Åland Sea from 1918 to 1937
Served in hydrographic survey duties on Lake Saimaa from 1937 to 1977
Home port at Helsinki’s Meritullintori since 2006

Restoration, heritage, and award-winning ambience
The hull of the lighthouse ship was discovered on the shoreline of a ship scrapyard in 1991
Susanna Seppä purchased the hull and decided to restore it as a lighthouse ship
An extensive restoration project began in the early 1990s
Restaurant operations on the ship began in 1995
Relandersgrund remains in the ownership of the same family and has received several recognitions and awards over the years
9 years as an event venue in the heart of Helsinki
A living part of Helsinki’s maritime cultural heritage
In 2016, the main salon was repurposed as a venue and reservation-based restaurant. Since then, countless private events have been celebrated aboard the ship at its current berth on Meritullintori.
We are especially praised for our ambience, attentive service, and high-quality catering. Our unique location in a maritime setting, right beside the Uspenski Cathedral, adds its own special charm.
The views open toward the Katajanokka warehouses and the Helsinki city skyline.
